Doc Searls talks about how he flunked the splog Turing test. He linked to a entry from a blog, and it turns out that it was actually a splog.
This shows how difficult it is to tell splogs apart from blogs. If someone as aware of the situation as Doc Searls can get fooled, how are most people, and algorithms, supposed to tell the difference?

Well, he was a bit distracted at the time. It certainly looks like a splog if you look at more than the post content. The sidebar links and the page name are good hints.

The sidebar links do seem spammy. The other thing that gives it away is the frequency of the posts combined with the fact that they are not credited. No one person could post that much.
