Blogpulse has a nice piece that lists a bunch of sploggers and what they have been up to. It gives a good overview of many of the reasons why sploggers do what they do.

I don’t think it gives a good overview at all. In a post explaining why spammers create splogs you must mention that ad revenue is a major reason.
They also did not use nofollow on the splog examples. Not good.
I do admit the Pen-Pal Patty example he gave was not so clearly a splog, but if you look carefully you will notice it is missing something, line breaks.

You’re right about not mentioning ad revenue, that is a major oversight.
Yikes! I can’t believe they didn’t use nofollows, that’s terrible.
