Bond’s DB5 receiving ‘star-billing’ in ‘No Time To Die’

Car manufacturer Aston Martin has revealed details about its involvement in No Time To Die, the 25th James Bond film, confirming how much the four cars it has supplied will appear in the film.

According to the Aston Martin Magazine, the classic Silver Birch Aston Martin DB5, which made its James Bond debut in 1964’s Goldfinger, will get ‘star-billing’ and appears in ‘a definitive pre-credit sequence’. The action-packed pre-title sequence has become a staple of the franchise since 1962’s Dr. No.

Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, No Time To Die finds Daniel Craig’s James Bond retired from active service. However, he’s drawn out of retirement by Jeffrey Wright’s Felix Leiter who is on the trail of a kidnapped scientist.

The magazine confirms a quartet of Aston Martins will feature in Craig’s final 007 film, in cinemas 12 November, representing the legacy of the film franchise’s relationship with the marque over the years.

A 1980s-vintage Aston Martin V8, which debuted in Timothy Dalton’s 1987 film The Living Daylights, will be ‘poignantly brought out of retirement by Bond’ according to the magazine.

Aston Martin’s flagship, the DBS Superleggera, will be driven by ‘a new “00” agent’ – presumably Lashana Lynch’s Nomi – and is described as being ‘stylish, sophisticated and a devastating performer’.

Finally, the Aston Martin Valhalla, a mid-engined hybrid hypercar, will make ‘a quiet cameo’ but it won’t ‘turn a wheel’ on screen. We’re guessing it makes an appearance in Q’s gadget lab.

No Time To Die will mark the eighth occasion the Silver Birch DB5 has appeared in a James Bond film having featured previously in Goldfinger, Thunderball, GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, Casino Royale, Skyfall and Spectre.

Aston Martin has just completed work on its first new production line DB5 in over 50 years. Produced in association with Eon Productions – the producers of the Bond films – the inaugural DB5 Goldfinger Continuation rolled off the line on Monday, 6 July.

The track-only reproductions of James Bond’s gadget-laden Goldfinger car feature working gadgets, created in collaboration with long time Bond stunt coordinator Chris Corbould, and sell for £2.7 million. Only 25 will be made.
