Commercial Car Crash Leads to a Tragic Ending

The winter holiday season is the best and the worst. The best thing about it is that it brings people close together, sometimes literally. As the weather gets colder and cloudier, people are warming up next to others potentially deepening connections as the earth hibernates. With all the holiday cheer it is hard to not enjoy twinkling lights on all the trees and covering people’s houses. Yet, the holiday spirit also beckons thoughts of loss and grief. Just as you are celebrating togetherness you are also remembering the ones that are no longer with you. The ones who have passed on, but through the togetherness, you can bring them back to life. The grief is real, but imagine while you are dealing with remember your past loved ones, someone from your present gets killed?

Everyone needs a little extra cash around the holidays. You want to buy an extra special present or you just realized you forgot a cousin that is surprising your family and you haven’t seen in years. This was the exact idea Joe Parels, father of five when he picked up an extra shift at the postal service. He was scheduled to have the day off but decided to take the extra shift so he could spoil his grandchildren. The crash happened just after 10 am. The crash was hard to imagine. The force of the car that was responsible for the crash ended up under the delivery truck and squishing it against big rig. Parels was in the back of the delivery truck, as it was probably stopped and he was getting out the packages when the truck was hit. Parels died leaving a wife, five children, grandchildren, and countless brothers and sisters.

The accident was tragic. The car that struck the truck was speeding when witnesses said that they saw the car lose control and hit Parels. Police officers tested the driver for alcohol but they believe the driver was sober. Word is still waiting on blood results. Regardless, a loss of life is a loss of life whatever the reason. The Parels family is entitled to justice for the loss of life. Most accidents like this usually result in a criminal charge but the family can also file a civil suit for funeral expenses, medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
