Damage estimate for car wash fire is $100,000

Monday’s fire at the Dirty Dog Car Wash burned up a wash bay and damaged the roof of the building at 1825 E. High Ave. in Goshen Township, according to Asstant Chief Matt Tharp of the New Philadelphia Fire Department. He estimated the value of the damage at $100,000.

Firefighters were called to the fire at 12:14 a.m. and completed their work by 2:20 a.m.

The building caught fire after an Akron man pulled a smoking vehicle into a wash bay in an attempt to extinguish the fire.

In other local news, a 24-year-old man was jailed on charges of domestic violence and assault after a domestic violence incident was reported on Wainwright Road SE in Wainwright on Tuesday evening, according to the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office.

A woman from Strasburg Bolivar Road NW in the Bolivar area told a deputy sheriff Monday that someone bought a gaming laptop for $1,365 after hacking her Amazon account. The device was delivered to an Akron address. A second fraudulent purchase was attempted, but was denied due to insufficient funds.

A man told Dover police at 4:42 p.m. Tuesday that someone shot out the back window of his pickup truck while he was on the northbound Interstate 77 off-ramp at state Route 39.

A resident assaulted an employee of a group home in the 700 block of Miller Avenue NW, New Philadelphia, according to a police report made Tuesday.
