Newbury Fire Station reopens its doors for charity car wash for The Fire Fighters Charity and Ukraine

Around 100 cars were left sparkling at Newbury Fire Station on Saturday (March 26) as the charity car wash made a welcome return.

After a two year absence, the event received a good attendance and raised £2,300 for for The Fire Fighters Charity, an organisation set up in aid of the UK fire services community.

A further £200 was raised in spare change to go towards supporting Ukrainian refugees.

Station manager Phil Knight said: “After two years of not holding a car wash due to lockdown, it was nice to see the public back again to see their community fire station.

“The children were happy to see the fire engines, it was a good atmosphere.

“People were very generous and it was a lovely day.”

Mr Knight thanked his colleagues noting that other fire crews attended to lend a hand.

“We had extra resources from Theale and Wokingham – Theale came in the morning and Wokingham in the afternoon – we were all on fire cover to give a hand.”

He also thanked Dominos and McDonalds for their efforts in keeping energy levels high in the form of edible donations.

He said: “They helped out to feed the crew. Thank you to McDonalds and Dominos in Newbury for providing refreshments.”
